"What can I do?"

Things YOU can do to help SP

The most important thing you can do is to adopt SP (if you haven’t already done so). If we want politicians and political parties to pledge to implement SP, they need to know that citizens will only vote for them if they do. To do that, you need to stand up and be counted as an SP Adopter. Adopting SP is free.

Adopters: please remember to keep us informed of any change of your email or postal address. You can update your contact details on the adoption form.

Write to your MP

Once you’ve adopted SP, write to your MP asking them to sign the SP Pledge and tell them that, as an Adopter, you’ll be giving very strong voting preference at all future elections to candidates that have pledged to implement SP alongside other governments. When the next election approaches, write to all the candidates running in your constituency. If any of them want a chance of gaining your vote, they’ll know what they have to do!

Write to your favourite charities and global justice organisations

Giving to charities and supporting other non-governmental organisations that work for global justice and environmental sustainability is good and worthwhile. But these organisations need to recognise that global problems will never be solved while governments are forced to keep their economies competitive by sacrificing social and environmental protection.  That is why they need to support Simpol as a parallel means for achieving their objectives. To tell them about how SP can help achieve their aim, please write to your favourite charities and global justice organisations asking them to support SP.

Join or start a local SP Adopters Group (SPAG)

Changing things globally starts locally. Local SPAGs are being formed by Adopters in many parts of the UK. They campaign to build up the number of Adopters in their local area so as to build the pressure on the local MP to sign the SP Pledge. They can also debate potential policies for inclusion in SP.  Click here to see if there is a local group in your area. If you’d like to enquire about starting one, contact groups@simpol.org.uk

Volunteer

Simpol works only because a number of Adopters generously give some of their time to help. It is much appreciated and much needed. If you can spare some time on a regular basis, please download the form and tell us what you can do. You can return it as an email attachment.

Participate in the policy development process

The policy content of SP is a work-in-progress that is evolving and expanding as more people – from expert policy-makers to grassroots activists – adopt SP and become involved in building our democratic, global policy package. You don’t need to be an expert to be involved and you can make policy suggestions, follow discussions on existing proposed policies and participate in email discussions with other Adopters in the UK and worldwide. For more information policies and to get involved, click on the Polices link in the left-hand column.

Become a Member of Simpol-UK

In addition to adopting SP, you can also apply to become a member of Simpol-UK. Members are entitled to participate in the running of Simpol-UK and of the SP campaign. However, members have the same rights as Adopters in determining the policy content of SP. If you would like to become a member, please fill in and send off the membership form with your payment (£25 per year waged; £10 unwaged) or become a member online. Contact us for more information.
